Goal: To raise the height of the Technivorm
KBT-741 coffeemaker so that it will allow the new-style thermal carafe, with lid attached, to slip into
place in its usual position under the filter holder. (This applies only to the
KBT-741 new-style carafe version with the fully rounded lip -- no spout -- that
will not fit under the coffeemaker with lid attached.). Height before
adding riser is 15 inches. Height after adding riser is 15.5 inches.
Total Cost: About $2
Modifications Needed to Coffee Maker: None
(coffee maker, carafe, and carafe pad are not altered in any way).
Materials Needed:
- One 6x6-inch square, 1/4-inch thick tile of choice
(Cost anywhere from 30 cents to $2, if you really want to splurge.
Cost on mine was 45 cents. Make sure the tile chosen will sit level on
a flat surface with no wobble! Test before you bring home.
- One package of vinyl bumpers (I used 1/2-inch
"Surface Guard" bumpers from Home Depot, item number 9562, cost $1.55 per
package. These bumpers are about 1/4 inch in height.)
Tools Needed:
- Dremel (If you want to go all-out to cut a
groove in the bottom of the tile to accommodate the lip on the plastic pad
that sits under the carafe. This immobilizes the carafe pad just as
it is when attached in its usual to the bottom of the coffee maker
itself. You could likely get by without cutting the groove in the
tile, but then you'd have to bump the pad loosely against the tile and it
would not be anchored in place. Not a big deal either way. Not
cutting the groove would save some trouble. Without the groove, the
riser wouldn't look as "finished," though).
